There have been two major organizations governing the game of Futsal in the US over the past 15 years. The United States Futsal Federation (USFF) was the first organization to create youth leagues in 1981. In 2000, the upstart and now named United States Youth Futsal (USYF) was formed in Kansas City. The Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) and United Futsal Association have joined the mix along with the AMF version of the game being offered by Major League Futsal. All of the organizations play under slightly different rules and only 2 are affiliated directly with US Soccer but each offers players the opportunity to compete in the game of futsal in their locality.

The men's game at the highest level is played in one of three organizations currently, Major League Futsal (MLF), the National Futsal premier League (NFPL) and then there are the national and international tournaments held by US Futsal and United Futsal Association.
